We can’t get enough of the Cape’s midcentury roadside attractions.
One of the most revered was The Barefoot Trader, a gift shop located on Route 28 in West Yarmouth. Construction on the store’s A-Frame building began in 1957. It was described as a “Polynesian Paradise” and sold gifts, sportswear, and even food “that have been collected from the wide, wide world.”
The Barefoot Trader closed in the late 1980s. Though altered over the years, the building still exists as do the original footprints on the walkway.
